01DAY AREQUIPA – PUERTO MALDONADO

DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: AREQUIPA – PUERTO MALDONADO: Early morning around 7:30am a driver & guide will pick you up from the hotel in Arequipa (Peru) then you will be driven to Colca Canyon which is located 165km away from Arequipa and 42km from Chivay town, during the journey we will pass near to the foot of the volcano Misti, and then by pampas Cañahuas place where there is the National Reserve of Vicuña (wild camels with the finest wool in the world). Here you can see the snowy peaks of Misti, the Vizcachani, The Pulpera Callalli, Sibayo and Tuti Village, the giant rocks castles as well as the flora and fauna. Following with our trip we will pass the local villages of Imata, Condoroma, Ocoruro and Hector Tejada. We make a brief stop at LANGUI name of one of the four Lakes locally known as (4 lakes) where there is flora and fauna. SICUANI: We stop to have lunch at a quiet countryside restaurant where you will enjoy the traditional Peruvian dish (buffet lunch). RAQCHI: After lunch we continue with the trip visiting Raqchi, one of the most important places in the Inca times, as Raqchi was the limit between Cusco and Puno (route to Collasuyo) for that reason was built here over 200 barns (food stores, to save food in the drought time), agricultural terraces, stone walls, and qolqas (store houses). Also here is located one of the largest temples built in the time of the Inca Pachacutec to devote as worship to the god Wiracocha. There is a great central wall with a stone base likewise there are other walls built of adobe (water, mud and straw) now a day it is used to build houses in rural areas in the Andes. The central wall has a height of 12m, 92m long, 25.5m wide, 1.20m thick walls, its roof a slope of 50°, the columns were 1.60m in diameter and height of 9.80m. From URCOS we turn to the right, which is the deflection point. We continue passing the local villages of Ccatcca, Kcauri, Ocongate, Tinki, Pampacancha. Then we star to descend to the forest area which part of the Amazon, passing the villages of Quince Mil, Puerto Leguia, Mazuco travelling nearly the river. Finally arrival in Puerto Maldonado.

Then following the journey we will pass over 4528m (limit Puno-Arequipa) another stop by pampa cañahuas place where there is the National Reserve of Vicuña (wild camels with the finest wool in the world). We continue with our trip passing over the Peruvian high plateau, making stop at Lagunillas Lake where we will see a magnificent geography of the Lagoon surrounded by the mountains of the Andes. On this area there are birds like flamingos and ostrich, also camelids as alpacas, llamas and vicuñas. Besides the towns Santa Lucia, Cabanillas and Juliaca. We continue passing the local villages of Calapuja, Azangaro, Asillo. Then we star to ascend to the mountains passing the villages of San Anton, Macusani, Ollaechea. Then we descend to the forest area which part of the Amazon, passing the villages of Lanlacuni Bajo and Mazuco, travelling nearly the river. Finally arrival in Puerto Maldonado.
