DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: AREQUIPA – SALINAS AGUADA BLANCA NATIONAL RESERVE – AREQUIPA: The Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve is located between the departments of Arequipa and Moquegua, at an average altitude of 4300m (Arequipa-Salinas Aguada Blanca 72km). During the trip we will pass near the volcano Misti and Chachani. The Salinas Aguada Blanca National Reserve has 366,936 hectares, which is home to majestic volcanoes such as Misti, Chachani, Pichupichu and Ubinas, like the Stone Forest Puruña. The reserve also has beautiful lakes and wetlands, habitat of birds like flamingos and Andean ducks. About Fauna there are vertebrates are represented by 207 species, of which 37 are mammals and 158 birds. Also it reported the presence of 5 species of reptiles, 4 of amphibians and 3 of fish. The characteristic herbivores of the typical fauna of the highlands are the camelids: Llama, alpaca, vicuna and guanacos, taruca, flamingos, viscachas, puma, the Andean cat, the osjollo and the Andean fox. Among the resident birds highlights the Andean goose (Huallata) for its abundance, the Andean duck. The flora is formed basically by 358 species of plants, which include herbaceous and shrub species. Among the main plant associations are the growing Puya or high-Andean grasslands, desert scrub, bogs and “queñua” Polylepis besseri forming extensive forests. About climate, average annual temperatures between -2° C and 8° C; but can reach -20° C minimum and 15° C maximum. Sunny days and cold nights.
